President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has issued new directives to Nigeria’s security and intelligence chiefs, calling for intensified action to restore peace in parts of the country grappling with violent attacks.
This was disclosed by the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, shortly after an emergency security and intelligence meeting held at the President’s official residence in Abuja on Wednesday.
“It was a detailed and exhaustive briefing. Mr. President has been closely monitoring the situation—even while away—and today, he made it clear: enough is enough,” Ribadu told reporters.
According to Ribadu, the President is demanding results. He instructed the military, police, and intelligence agencies to redouble their efforts and improve coordination with local authorities, especially in troubled regions such as Plateau, Benue, and Borno States.
“Security cannot be handled by the federal government alone. State and local governments must play a key role because they are closer to the people,” the NSA emphasized.
On-the-Ground Assessments Already Underway
Ribadu revealed that, on the President’s orders, top security officials have recently visited high-risk areas to meet with local leaders and assess the security situation firsthand.
He noted that the situation, particularly in the North-East, remains fluid due to evolving threats like IEDs planted by insurgents in Borno State.
“These are opportunistic attacks. But our men and women are on the ground, working tirelessly—sacrificing comfort and sleep—to protect lives and ensure safety,” Ribadu said.
Progress Made, But Work Continues
While acknowledging ongoing challenges, Ribadu called for national perspective, pointing out that notable security gains have been recorded over the past year.
“Security is relative. We are not where we want to be, but we are moving forward. The President remains committed to achieving lasting peace,” he stated.
He urged Nigerians to stay hopeful, noting that the momentum in security improvements will continue under President Tinubu’s leadership.
