Human rights lawyer and political activist Dele Farotimi has reaffirmed his unwavering support for former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Farotimi declared that if the election were held today and votes were guaranteed to count, Obi would still have his vote—unless a more capable candidate emerges.

“If elections where our votes will count were to hold today, I will vote for Peter Gregory Obi, unless somebody else comes into the race that I think can do better,” Farotimi stated. “If it’s still the same lineup as the last time, it’s definitely Peter Obi I’m voting for.”

Farotimi, who served as a spokesperson for the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council in 2023, praised Obi’s integrity and competence but noted that he hopes Obi would be bolder in presenting his policy agenda next time.

He also cautioned against the premature focus on the 2027 elections, describing it as a distraction from Nigeria’s pressing challenges.

“I actually think our discussions of elections today are a disservice to ourselves because we really cannot speak in terms of an election in our current circumstances,” he said.

While acknowledging that certain political alliances could make him reconsider, Farotimi emphasized that, for now, Obi remains his top choice, driven by a continued hope for meaningful change in Nigeria.
