The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister,Mr. Nyesom Wike has said that the flag-off of water supply projects in the satellite towns of the nation’s capital was a promise fulfilled.
Speaking on Thursday,August 21,2025, at the official flag- off the Lot 2 Karu Town and Environs Water Supply Project,he said the project was in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s pledge to deliver portable water to the residents of the FCT during the commissioning of the Greater Water Abuja Project.
“I thank the people of Karu for coming out to support this flag-off program. Yesterday, we were in Bwari to flag off the provision of water supply in Saterlitte town. This is one of the promises made by Mr. President when he commissioned the Greater Water Abuja project in June this year.
“He said he was also going to provide water in the satellite towns, and we have started with Bwari and AMAC Area Councils”,the minister stated.
He revealed that the Kuje and Kwali water supply projects would commence by 2026, adding that before President Tinubu completes his first tenure, the Gwagwalada and Abaji water projects would also commence.
He promised that by June 2026, clean and treated water would be available to the homes of Karu residents, ending their dependence on untreated borehole water.
While highlighting his Administration’s commitment to infrastructural development in the nation’s capital,Wike recalled that the 17-kilometre Karu-Karshi Road, once in a deplorable state, had already been reconstructed, easing movement in Karu town.
He promised the construction of a 2km access road within the Karu site to ease mobility within the area.
The Minister urged the Karu community to support the contractors to ensure timely completion for commissioning by the president for his third year in office.
He commended the AMAC Chairman for prioritising infrastructure delivery to his people, stressing that the provision of potable water was not just a government promise but “a fulfilled commitment and an investment in the future.”
In his remarks, the Deputy Managing Director of CGC Nigeria Limited, Mr. Lui Hia Ming,the company handling the construction,said the project was “more than a water project as it is people’s project,” assuring that the company would deliver quality and safe water to the people in line with the minister’s vision.
The Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Richard Dauda, while presenting an overview of the construction and expansion of the water supply project in Karu Satellite town, said it is a strategic infrastructural project in line with the FCT master plan to guarantee potable water access for FCT residents.
He said the project provides an essential secondary and tertiary distribution network for the distribution of potable water to the teeming population of Karu town and environs.
