Former Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 presidential election, Mr.Peter Obi, has called on the relevant authorities to provide prompt medicare for injured passengers on the train, which derailed recently on its journey from Abuja-Kaduna.
In a statement on his X handle on Wednesday, August 27,2025,the ex-presidential candidate
expressed deep concern over the mishap.
He urged relevant authorities to provide prompt medical care, investigate the causes, and take decisive measures to restore confidence in rail transportation as a vital driver of development.
“Incidents like this must spur us to do better in maintaining critical infrastructure, because the safety and wellbeing of citizens must remain paramount,” Obi added.
The ex-presidential candidate expressed sympathy with the injured passengers and thanked God for sparing their lives.
Obi noted that the derailment was a reminder of the urgent need to prioritise safety in the nation’s transport sector.
“My heartfelt sympathy goes to all those who sustained injuries and were traumatised by the accident. We are grateful that no life was lost. I pray for the quick recovery of the injured,” he said.
