Tragedy struck on Wednesday when
an acting director at the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Ahmed Alhasan, and a woman identified as Mrs. Comfort Abdnego reportedly slumped and died on Wednesday at different locations in Uyo,Akwa-Ibom State, and the Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The REA director was on an official event in Uyo when the unfortunate incident occurred.

Confirming his death in a condolence message, President of the Nigeria Consumer Protection Network, Kunle Olubiyo,said Alhasan died during REA’s stakeholders’ roundtable in Akwa Ibom State.

His death attracted tributes from power and energy sector stakeholders in the country.

For the 47-year-old, Mrs. Comfort Abdnego,a trader,she reportedly slumped and died at the Kwaita market in the Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Witnesses said the incident happened on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at about 11:23 a.m., while she was attending to customers who came to buy garri (cassava flour).

It was reported that the deceased stood up to buy a polythene bag to measure some mudu of garri for one of her customers when she suddenly slumped.

A witness,Ayuba Felix said the woman slumped in the process of sitting down.

He said some vigilantes at the market were alerted and they came to rush her to a nearby clinic.

“Unfortunately, she was later confirmed dead upon arrival at the clinic.

“One of the traders at the market, who identified her relatives, contacted them to evacuate her corpse,” he said.

A member of the vigilante, simply identified as Dogara, also confirmed the incident, saying the deceased came from Pache village and her body has been taken away by the family members.

“The woman comes from Pache village to sell garri on every Kwaita market day.We saw people gathered where she sells this morning and discovered that she had slumped and died.

“Even when the vigilantes found out from the relatives who came to evacuate her corpse, they said the woman was hale and hearty before she left home this morning”,he added.

A police source at the Kwali Division confirmed the incident but the FCT Police Command is yet to issue an official statement on the death.
