Former Minister of State of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT),
Senator Solomon Akku Ewuga is dead.
A prominent politician and elder statesman from Nasarawa State,he died on Tuesday, September 23,2025,at the age of 70 years.
Though the family is yet to make an official statement on his death,sources close to the family in Akwanga and Nasarawa-Eggon confirmed his passing.
Also, a former colleague of his at the Technical Committee on Privatisation and Commercialisation (TCPC),Mallam Yusuf Alhassan Adamu
where the late Ewuga was a Special Assistant to the pioneer Chairman of the TCPC,late Dr. Hamza Zayyad confirmed his dead on a WhatsApp platform of former TCPC workers.
Ewuga, a lawyer, rose to prominence in Nasarawa politics in 1999 when he contested against Abdullahi Adamu, former National Chairman of the APC, for the governorship ticket.
After Adamu won the highly contested PDP primary election, Ewuga was picked as his deputy.
Following their victory in the governorship election, Governor Adamu nominated him as minister from Nasarawa State, and in June 1999, President Olusegun Obasanjo appointed him Minister of State for the FCT.
He held the position for two years before being removed in a cabinet reshuffle.
Ewuga again contested for the governor of Nasarawa State in 2003 and 2007.
He later defected to the ANPP and subsequently to the CPC, where he joined forces with Tanko Al-Makura to defeat the then-Governor Aliyu Akwe Doma in 2011.
While Al-Makura was elected governor on the CPC platform, Ewuga won a Senate seat to represent Nasarawa North in the 7th Assembly.
After serving one term, he made another attempt at the governorship but lost in the primaries.
While informing members on the TCPC ex-workers WhatsApp platform, Mallam Adamu wrote:
“Good morning, House.
This is to regrettably inform the House about the death of His Excellency Senator Solomon Ewuga, another pioneer staff of the TCPC / BPE.
“The sad event occurred yesterday(Tuesday, September 23,2025)after a protracted illness.
“Again, many of us on this platform might not have worked or known, Senator Ewuga.
“He was also a Special Assistant to our Late Chairman, Mallam Hamza Zayyad.
“He worked as Special Assistant 2 to the Chairman from 1989 until 1992 when he left to become General Manager (Lagos and Southern Operations) at the Nigerian Social Insurance Trust Fund ( NSITF).
“He subsequently became a Special Assistant to the then Minister of Labour and Productivity.”
A veteran journalist, Ewuga, once served as the Managing Director of the Nigerian Standard Newspaper,Jos,Plateau State.
He endured several personal tragedies in recent years.
One of his daughters, a pilot, died in a plane crash in Cameroon.
He was also kidnapped and brutally injured, leaving him nearly immobile for many years.
Ewuga earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Ibadan (1974–1977) and later studied Mass Communication at Stockholm University, Sweden.
