Patients have deserted the ever busy and crowded Asokoro District Hospital, Abuja, as a result of the ongoing strike by resident doctors, investigation has revealed.
Our reporter who visited the hospital on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, saw a few Out- Patients milling around to collect the results of their laboratory investigations conducted for them before the strike but there was no doctor on ground to attend to them.
One of the patients, Blessing Anthony, speaking on the strike, said it was frustrating as she had to leave after collecting her results without being attended to.
”Unfortunately, I do not even know that doctors are on strike. My coming to the hospital is a waste of time and transport fare, “she said.
There was a pin drop silence at the hospital as a few nurses and administrative staff were seen walking around.
The Asokoro District Hospital is not the only healthcare centre affected by the strike as it is a nationwide protest.
It would be recalled that the Association of Nigeria Resident Doctors began their strike on Saturday, November 8, 2025, to protest against poor remuneration, staff shortages, unpaid allowances, and unsafe working conditions.
The 11,500 resident doctors currently on strike are among the country’s 56,000 registered medical practitioners.
