A deputy director of the Development Control Department of the Federal Capital Territory Administration(FCTA), Dr. TPL Sanusi Bashir has assumed duties as head of the department.
He succeeds former director of the department,
Tpl Mukhtar Galadima,who recently retired after more than 30 years of service.
As the most senior deputy director at the department, Bashir took over in a smooth transition on Tuesday,November 18,2025, at the formal hand and takeover ceremony at the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council, (AMMC) Headquarters,Wuse Zone 6,Abuja where commendation, laughter and emotions filled the air.
Earlier, Galadima thanked God for granting him good health while in service and also expressed appreciation to the staff and management of the department for giving him all the support and encouragement throughout the eight years he served as a substansive director of the department.
He described Bashir as a square peg in a square hole, stressing that the acting director had the competent skill and courage to take the department to greater heights.
He apealed to all the staff to give him maximum support.
In his response,Bashir thanked the former director for his dedication and commitment towards the development of the department and solicited the cooperation of staff and management in taking the department to greater heights.
The acting director began his career as a Town Planner from Kaduna Polytechnic where he obtained a National Diploma in Urban and Regional Planning in 1987.He proceeded to the Yaba College of Technology,Lagos,where he obtained a Higher National Diploma(HND) in Urban and Regional Planning in 1990.
After his National Youth Service (NYSC) in 1991, he went to obtain a postgraduate Diploma in Regional Planning in 1994.
He holds a Master of Science Degree (MSC) in Urban and Regional Planning from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
Bashir obtained a PhD in Environmental Resource Management in 2023. He is a fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners.
Through career progression, he rose to become a deputy director.
Before this new assignment, he was the deputy director in charge of the development permit (south) at the Development Control Department, Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC).
