The F Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Education Resource Centre (FCT ERC) of the Education Secretariat has organised a five-day intensive training programme to skill and upskill Secondary School Teachers across the Six Area Councils of the Territory.

The aim is to advance Entrepreneurship Education in FCT Schools and the programme aligns with the new curriculum recently released by the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC), with a focus on fostering an entrepreneurship mindset among learners.

Declaring the programme open, the Secretary for Education, Dr. Danlami Hayyo emphasised that the training was a collective journey to reshape entrepreneurship education for a rapidly evolving world.

He noted that entrepreneurship thrives through inclusion, innovation, and empowerment, which define the future the Secretariat was committed to building.

According to him, every learner deserves an equal opportunity to become an innovator, creator, leader, and job-builder.

Hayyo further noted that technology is a great equalizer in modern entrepreneurship education and urged participants to explore technological tools revolutionizing entrepreneurial learning from online platforms and business management applications to digital marketplaces and AI-driven innovation tools.

Acknowledging the organisers and partners, he commended the programme’s design, which goes beyond theory to include practical exercises, real-world case studies, group collaboration, and interactive activities.

He encouraged participants to apply the knowledge gained in classrooms, training centers, businesses, and community initiatives, while also calling on them to democratise learning by creating spaces where every learner can thrive.

Speaking in the same vein, the Permanent Secretary, Education Secretariat, Chinwe Okeke, highlighted that the initiative empowers teachers with the competencies needed to nurture innovative, self-reliant, and future-ready learners.

She added that the training strengthens the entrepreneurial capacity of teachers and lays a foundation for an economy driven by creativity, resilience, and opportunity.

Earlier, the Director of FCT ERC, Dr. Neemat Abdulrahim, explained that the workshop by ERC was organised in strong partnership with UNESCO and CEBAR, aimed at strengthening teachers’ capacity in delivering inclusive and innovative Entrepreneurship Education.

She emphasised that the training would equip participants with digital tools and practical strategies to make learning accessible to all, regardless of disability, gender, or socio-economic background, as the centre’s commitment “is not to leave anyone behind but to ensure inclusion and sustainable growth.

The CEO of CEBAR, Ms. Carol Barlow, stressed that entrepreneurship education equips young people to discover solutions to community problems.

She encouraged teachers to inspire creativity, teach differently, and become agents of transformation who shape lives and the nation.

The Secretary General of the Nigerian National Commission for UNESCO, Dr. Lateef Olagunju, represented by the Head of the Education Sector, Eunice Ayara, reiterated the organisation’s commitment to localising UNESCO’s global vision through teacher development, school innovation, cultural heritage preservation, and sustainable national growth.

Participants from different Secondary Schools in the FCT expressed their readiness to apply the knowledge gained, fostering innovation and creativity among students to become self-reliant rather than solely job seekers.
