The Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Mr Christopher Maikalangu, says 80 percent of the capital component of the 2026 AMAC budget will be invested in rural infrastructure.
Maikalangu gave the assurance on Wednesday,December 24,2025,while presenting the 2026 AMAC Appropriation Bill of N37.9 billion to the AMAC Legislative Council in Abuja.
The chairman said that “over the past three years, budgets have been meticulously implemented, and the evidence is visible for all to see.”
He said that equal attention will be given to the 2026 budget after the approval of the legislature.
He added that “my priority for the people of AMAC is infrastructure; this is because should you go down to our rural areas, you will know there is a need for infrastructure.
“As an area council, we will always allocate 80 percent of available funds to rural areas and the rest; 20 percent.
“We will make sure all the rural areas get what they want. By the grace of God, in 2026, AMAC residents will see good things.
“We have done it over the past three years, and all we have done is there for people to see; what I have just presented now will be implemented, and people will see it.”
In his remarks, the Speaker of AMAC Legislative Council, Mr. Matthew Yare commended the executive “for the diligence, foresight, and commitment demonstrated in the preparation of the 2026 budget.”
According to him, budget presentation is not merely a constitutional exercise but a strategic roadmap that reflects the vision, priorities, and developmental aspirations of the people.
The speaker said that the 2026 exercise is a reaffirmation of shared commitment to democratic governance, transparency, and accountability.
Yare said it underscored the principle of separation of powers ,working in harmony for the common good of the people of the area council.
The speaker said that the AMAC Legislative Council remained resolute in its constitutional mandate to provide effective oversight, ensure prudent management of public resources, and enact laws that promote good governance and sustainable development.
“In this regard, we view the 2026 budget as an important instrument for consolidating the gains recorded so far while addressing emerging challenges facing our communities.
“As representatives of the people, we will subject the proposed estimates to thorough scrutiny, constructive engagement, and objective analysis.
“Our focus shall remain on ensuring that the budget is people-oriented, inclusive, realistic, and aligned with the developmental needs of all wards within the Area Council.
“We are particularly interested in programmes that promote infrastructure development, education, healthcare delivery, youth and women empowerment, social welfare, and economic growth,” he stated.
The speaker assured the council’s readiness to collaborate with the executive in good faith to ensure the timely passage of the 2026 budget.
According to him, such cooperation is essential to guarantee seamless implementation and to avoid delays that will hinder service delivery to constituents.
Yare said that the success of any budget lies not only in its passage but in effective implementation.
He, therefore, urge stakeholders, executive officials, civil servants, development partners, and the general public to play their respective roles with integrity, dedication, and patriotism.
