Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Christopher Maikalangu, has condemned the demolition of Karsana Community allegedly carried out by a private developer, Oceanic Properties and Equilibrium Concept.

The chairman, who on Saturday inspected the demolition site in Abuja to assess its impact on the residents’ livelihoods, condemned the developer’s actions, and described them as a grave injustice against the community.

He vowed to pursue legal redress on behalf of the affected residents as they were legitimate indigenous Gbagyi people of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) who were entitled to full compensation for the damages inflicted upon them.

Maikalangu appealed to President Bola Tinubu and the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, for immediate intervention to address the situation.

He also appealed to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation to intervene in their immediate resettlement, adding that many families had been rendered homeless.

Also, the FCT Chapter of the African Action Congress (AAC) has condemned the demolition, describing the operation as brutal and inhuman.

A statement on Sunday, July 20, 2025, signed by its chairman, Agena Robert Ande, the party regretted that the demolition was carried out without any due process or minding the human rights of the residents.

It noted that the demolition was carried out without prior notice to the residents or alternatives given to them.

The party called for compensation and rehabilitation of the victims.

It would be recalled that bulldozers last Saturday demolished parts of Karsana, pulling down houses, shops and other structures. The demolition has rendered many people homeless, including women, children and the elderly. A church and the chief’s palace were also affected.
