The Association of Resident Doctors of the Federal Capital Territory Administration(AR-FCTA) has suspended its indefinite strike.
The President of ARD-FCTA, Dr. George Ebong, announced the suspension on Friday,September 19,2025.
He said its members are expected to resume work at 8 am on Monday, 22nd September 22,2025.
He noted that the suspension comes after the intervention of the Nigerian Senate Committee on Federal Territory Area Councils & Ancillary Matters and respect for the FCT Minister,Mr. Nyesome Wike.
However, Dr. Ebong revealed that none of its demands had been met as of the time of filing the report.
“The senate intervened. Even though none of our demands have been met yet, they assured us that they will talk to the minister.
^We hope the minister will listen to us because we respect him,” he stated.
The ARD-FCTA began an indefinite strike this Monday over poor working conditions, remuneration and other demands.
It would be recalled that the FCT Minister,Mr.Nyesom Wike, on Thursday, vowed to end the ongoing strike by resident doctors in Abuja through established protocols, dismissing any notions of neglect or political maneuvering.
He made the vow during the launch of a major road project in Abuja and emphasised the importance of procedural integrity amid the doctors’ indefinite strike.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the action stems from six months of withheld salaries, acute staffing deficits, and unresolved payments for essential allowances.
But addressing the impasse directly, Wike highlighted recent administrative hurdles while underscoring swift action once cleared.
“We lost our Head of Service; we just appointed an acting Head of Service,” he noted. If the Permanent Secretary, Treasury brings their bill now, why will I hold it? They will be paid. They should know that everything has procedure.”
Wike urged the medical professionals to separate partisan influences from legitimate civil service claims, insisting that while their concerns are valid and under review, adherence to protocols remains non-negotiable.
