Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have reportedly taken former Anambra State Governor and immediate past Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, into custody.

EFCC officials were said to have stormed Ngige’s Abuja residence on Wednesday evening,December 10,2024,in what was described as a swift and discreet operation, escorting the former minister away, under tight security.

The sudden development comes barely weeks after Ngige’s convoy was brutally attacked in Anambra State — a violent ambush that left two persons, including a police orderly, wounded and claimed the life of an unsuspecting passer-by.

Ngige was reportedly absent from the convoy at the time, a detail that fuelled several unanswered questions around the attack.

Earlier on the day of his reported arrest (Wednesday),the social media was awashed with claims that Ngige had been abducted, triggering panic and confusion among his supporters.

But the rumour mill was abruptly halted when his former media aide, Fred Chukwuelobe, issued a statement via his Facebook to set the record straight.

In a terse Facebook update, Chukwuelobe revealed:
“Ngige is with the EFCC. Former Governor of Anambra State and immediate past Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige is with the EFCC. More details later.”
