The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) FCT Chapter has suspended its three-month strike to honour the intervention of FCT Minister,Mr. Nyesom Wike.
A statement by the union,jointly signed by its President, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Kabi and Secreraty, Comrade Abdulmumini Sa’ad on Monday(July 14,2025) said the decision followed the intervention of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, who directed the utilisation of the Area Councils’ 10% Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to offset three months’ salary arrears.
“The union’s State Executive Council (SEC) meeting, held on July 14, 2025, at the State Secretariat in Gwagwalada, Abuja, resolved to suspend the strike after exhaustive deliberations and appeals from the Minister, Mr. Nyesom Wike, the FCT Traditional Council, and other key stakeholders”, the statement read. It said the key resolutions reached at the meeting included; NULGE to work with a special committee to be constituted by the FCT Minister to harmonize all outstanding arrears within two weeks, to reach a holistic resolution through the National Assembly House Committee on FCT and ancillary matters.Another resolution is for the Union to engage with the Area Council Chairmen to address outstanding issues, including the 40% Peculiar Allowance, CONHESS/CONMESS and CONPSS salary adjustments, including other entitlements.
NULGE also resolved to be committed to sustaining industrial peace and harmony within the council and the FCT in general.
The Union expressed profound gratitude to the FCT Minister, FCT Traditional Council, and all other relevant stakeholders for their efforts in resolving the industrial action.NULGE also reiterated its commitment to engaging with the Area Council Chairmen on the remaining entitlements and outstanding issues.
