The police in Abuja have arrested a man simply identified as Sunday for allegedly staging his kidnap.
The Spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command,Superintendent of Police (SP) Josephine Adeh, through a video posted on her social media handle on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, said the suspect used his friend (Suleiman)’s phone to call his parents and alleged that he was kidnapped by the latter who reportedly demanded ₦4m ramson for his(Sunday)’s release.
She posted: “Christmas is here once again, and as usual, in the spirit of looking for money, a lot of people are engaging in some criminal activities.
“Those who did not work from the beginning of the year to its end want to make it at all costs, all in the name of going back home to enjoy Christmas.
“Sunday is a security man with a company(name withheld). He has been working there for a couple of months.
”I don’t know what got into him, and he decided to throw his parents into a panic situation.
“He staged his own kidnap, used his friend’s phone to call his parents, and demanded ₦4m ramson,claiming that his friend – Suleiman kidnapped him,”
Adeh disclosed that the Suleiman was not aware of what his friend was discussing with his parents as he did not understand the language(Igbo), which Sunday communicated with his parents.
“He only borrowed Suleiman’s phone to make a call.He began to communicate with his parents in Igbo, and Suleiman did not understand what he was saying.
“Unfortunately for him, the family was able to reach out to Suleiman later in the day, begging him to reduce the amount and also begged him not to kill Sunday.
”Suleiman was surprised and ran to a police station at Jabi to report the incident,leading to Sunday’s arrest.
The suspect confirmed the incident and confessed that he did that to get money and travel for Christmas.
“My name is Sunday.I used my friend’s phone to call my people to inform them that l was kidnapped,” he said.
Speaking further in pidgin English, he said:
“I no get money to go village and I want go village for Christmas.
”But l no feel okay now that the police have arrested me”.
