Several residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have expressed frustration over the persistent poor electricity supply in various parts of Abuja, blaming the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) for what they described as an unbearable situation.
Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday, November 9,2025,residents from Kubwa, Kuje, and Dutse lamented that power supply in their areas hardly lasts more than five hours daily, urging AEDC to upgrade its infrastructure and improve service delivery.
Mrs. Eniola Williams, a civil servant living in Phase 2, Kubwa, said the situation had become intolerable, noting that her neighborhood barely enjoys three hours of electricity each day in the past three months.
“It would even be better if they supply power one day on and one day off, rather than this erratic pattern we are experiencing. AEDC needs to improve its infrastructure so that customers can get value for their money,” she said.
Similarly, Mrs. Oluchi Emeka, another Kubwa resident, described the poor power supply as devastating, especially for small business owners.
“Our businesses have collapsed because we hardly get up to five hours of electricity daily in parts of Kubwa,” she lamented.
In Kuje, Mr. Emmanuel Ogar, an engineer, said the inconsistent power supply had disrupted normal life and made food preservation difficult.
“We can not even stock our refrigerators because the power is so unstable. We are really suffering. AEDC should urgently take steps to improve supply in our area,” he appealed.
Also speaking, Mr. Emmanuel Ogbomo, a welder from Kuje, said his workshop had been badly affected by the erratic electricity situation.
“Sometimes, we do not even get up to four hours of light a day—and on some days, it is total blackout. I’m losing customers and money daily. AEDC must fix their infrastructure to ensure stable power,” he said.
In Dutse, fashion designer Mrs. Dorcas Edet shared her ordeal, saying she had resorted to working at odd hours just to meet deadlines.
“Most times, there is no power during the day, so I wake up at night to sew when electricity is available,” she explained.
The residents collectively appealed to AEDC to address the recurring power challenges, emphasising that stable electricity was essential for households and businesses to thrive in the FCT.NAN.
