The Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) has announced that it would partne with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to provide relief to road users on federal roads in the FCT, particularly the Nyanya-Mararaba axis.
The FCT Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC),Felix N. Theman announced this during a familiarisation visit to the Managing Director and CEO of FERMA at its corporate headquarters in Abuja.
A statement from FERMA’s Director of Information and Public Relations,Mrs. Maryam Sanusi said the Sector Commander requested urgent assistance from FERMA to improve drainage and desilt existing systems.
This, she said, is intended to prevent the flooding that often worsens road conditions, especially from Sharp Corner to the building materials market and the Mararaba bridge.
The flooding causes significant damage by washing away road shoulders and encroaching onto the carriageway.
The Sector Commander noted that the Nyanya-Mararaba axis is particularly bad in the evening, citing heavy traffic caused by population growth, the presence of motorcycle riders, and motorists driving against traffic, all of which contribute to gridlock.
In his welcome address, FERMA’s Managing Director and CEO, Engr. Emeka Agbasi thanked the FCT Sector Commander for the visit and congratulated him on his new posting to the FCT.
