The female passenger, Miss Comfort Emmanson, who allegedly assaulted flight crew and security officials on a Nigerian air carrier, IbomAir
flight from Uyo to Lagos, has been charged to court and remanded at Kirikiri correctional facility,Apapa,Lagos.
Tunde Moshood, the Special Adviser on Media and Communications to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, confirmed the development in a post on X on Monday,August 11,2025.
He urged the flying public to be more careful amid rising unruly passenger behaviour at Nigerian airports.
“The more reason the flying public should be more careful, the unruly passenger on Uyo-Lagos bound Ibom Air, Miss Comfort Emmanson has been charged to court and she’s now cooling off in Kirikiri,” Moshood said.
Videos circulating on social media showed Emmanson angrily attacking flight attendants and confronting airport security personnel.
IbomAir said the incident began just before take-off in Uyo when Emmanson refused to switch off her mobile phone as required by aviation safety procedures.
A fellow passenger beside her took the phone and switched it off, triggering a verbal tirade from Emmanson.
Upon arrival in Lagos, she confronted and physically assaulted the purser who had earlier instructed her to turn off the phone.
The airline described her actions as a serious threat to the safety of its crew, passengers, and aircraft.
IbomAir has since imposed a travel ban on Emmanson, declaring she will no longer be allowed to fly on any of its aircraft.
Aviation regulator, Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA),earlier said enforcement action would soon become more frequent in Nigerian airports as unruly conduct by passengers becomes rampant.
Recall a similar incident involving Fuji maestro, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (aka KWAM 1) and ValueJet, another airline, in which the singer, said to be close to the Presidency, sought to halt the aircraft from taxiing after he was denied entry on suspicion of carrying a flask containing alcohol.
The musician has since apologized for his behavior, but insisted that the flask contained water and not alcohol.
