A hattrick from striker Victor Osimhen and a 90th minute goal from Frank Onyeka saw Nigeria’s Super Eagles beat Benin Republic 4-0 to book a place in the playoffs for the FIFA 2026 World Cup.

Nigeria’s win did not see them qualify directly for the World Cup but ensured South Africa’s Bafana Bafana finished first on the group and qualified for the World Cup.

However, the 4-0 win from the Super Eagles means they finished second with 15 points (after points adjustments across playoff spots) and a chance for next month ‘s playoff.

Nigeria will now face 3 other African teams in November for a chance to get Africa’s playoff ticket.

The winner of that African playoff ticket in November will face a representative from Asia, Oceania and South America in March 2026 with the winner getting a ticket to the World Cup.
