Detectives of the Nigeria Police Force(NPF) have commenced a discreet Manhunt for the supplier of arms to the suspects who participated in armed robbery that led to the death of Ms Somtochukwu Christella Maduagwu, a journalist with ARISE News, and
a security guard,Barnabas Danlami, attached to the premises.

Parading the suspects on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, the Force Public Relations Officer(FPRO), Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP),Benjamin Hundeyin said investigations so far indicated that the arms supplier is from Niger Republic but did not elaborate further.

He said the suspects had confessed to participating in other robberies within Katampe I, Apo, Zuba, and other parts of the FCT.

Hundeyin said that the fatal shot that claimed the life of the security guard- Barnabas Danlami, was fired by one of the suspects, Shamsudeen Hassan, who told investigators that he shot the guard when the latter attempted to prevent them from gaining access to the apartment complex.

According to him, the briefing was to provide an update on the armed robbery incident; and collaborated earlier reports on the incident by the FCT Police Command that said a coordinated intelligence-driven investigation,diligent efforts and extensive digital intelligence analysis, led to the arrest of the 12 suspects.

He further collaborated on the identities of the suspects and arms recovered from them as earlier reported by the FCT Police Command and extended the Force’s condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of Ms Somtochukwu Christella Maduagwu and Barnabas Danlami.

While assuring of the police regular updates on the investigations,the FPRO said that justice would be pursued to its logical conclusion as all individuals connected to the grievous crime would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

”We commend the exceptional professionalism, courage, and dedication of the operatives of the FCT Police Command, whose painstaking efforts led to these arrests and recoveries.

”Members of the public are urged to remain vigilant and continue to support the Police with timely and credible information that will aid in the prevention and detection of crime, “he stated.
