Police authorities have discovered the severely decomposed body of a 55-year-old man,identified as Gaddafi Iwar, inside a vehicle parked near the annex gate of the National Assembly complex in Abuja.

The deceased, identified by the police as a Tiv laborer, reportedly employed at a construction site within the complex, was found in a red Peugeot 406, with registration number BWR-577 BF, around 9:00 am on Sunday,September 7,2025.

According to police reports, “The body was in an advanced state of decomposition, indicating the individual had been deceased for some time before discovery.”

The remains were first transported to the National Assembly Clinic for medical verification but were later moved to the Asokoro General Hospital.

A hospital source said, “Due to the extreme decomposition, we were unable to accept the body for further processing.”

The Tiv community and youth leaders eventually took the body to Gbawu Village, a border town between AMAC and Kuje Area Council, for burial to prevent a health hazard.

The incident has raised concerns about security and oversight within the National Assembly premises, with investigations ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding Iwar’s death.

Meanwhile, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has launched an investigation into the matter.

Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed on Monday that the body, believed to be that of a labourer, was found in a red Peugeot 406 with registration number BWR-577 BF at the National Assembly car park on Sunday morning.

She said that: “responding to a distress call at about 9 a.m., officers from the National Assembly Division evacuated the body to Asokoro General Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed that it was already in an advanced state of decomposition.

“The FCT Commissioner of Police has ordered a discreet probe into the incident and directed efforts to establish the identity of the deceased.

“Updates will be provided as investigations continue”.
