The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has busted a deadly armed robbery syndicate believed to be behind a series of violent crimes in Abuja and its environs.
In a string of coordinated operations carried out between September 3 and 19, 2025, operatives arrested key members of the gang at Kagini, FCT, and Madalla in Niger State.
The suspects have been identified as Ibrahim Shaibu, a.k.a. Baba Godes (28, from Zaria, Kaduna State), Yusuf Salihu (40, from Kagini, FCT), Awulu Nuhu, a.k.a. Zabi (25, from Keita Local Government Area, Katsina State), and Usman Yerima, a.k.a. Dangrugru (28, from Jimeta Local Government Area, Adamawa State).
During the operation, the police recovered two English pistols, 49 rounds of 9mm live ammunition, a gray 2012 Toyota Corolla, and 10 Android phones suspected to have been stolen from victims.
Police investigations revealed the syndicate’s involvement in multiple violent crimes, including the armed robbery of Umar Y. Gowa at Hillside Estate, Dawaki, and the violent attack on Volcano Peak Court Hotel, Gwarinpa, which led to the death of popular entertainer Bashir Dauda, also known as DJ Bash.
CCTV footage further linked the gang to other brutal attacks on unsuspecting residents.
The suspects reportedly confessed to their crimes and provided useful leads on other fleeing gang members, whom the police are currently pursuing.
FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao Adewale, praised the Command’s Scorpion Squad and other operatives for their professionalism and resilience in dismantling the criminal network.
He assured residents of the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property while urging the public to remain vigilant and provide credible information to aid ongoing operations.
