In the wake of a fiercely contested WAFCON semi-finals match, a remarkable act of sportsmanship unfolded as selected players from Nigeria’s Super Falcons, demonstrating a spirit of solidarity, visited Gabriela Salgado, the injured winger of South Africa’s Banyana Banyana, at the Mohamed VI Hospital in Casablanca.
The gesture, occurring after a hard-fought battle on the field, exemplifies the true essence of sportsmanship.
The injury, a mid-shaft fracture of Salgado’s left leg, was sustained during the intense semi-final clash against Nigeria, effectively ending her season. Recognizing the emotional and physical impact of the injury, the Super Falcons, spearheaded by their captain, Rasheedat Ajibade (Mummy GO) and including key players such as Michelle Alozie, Chiamaka Nnadozie, Ashleigh Plumptre, and Ifeoma Onumonu, extended a hand of compassion.
