President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of 12 new Consuls-General and five Chargés d’Affaires to represent Nigeria across 14 countries, in a major diplomatic reshuffle aimed at advancing the nation’s foreign policy and economic interests.

The announcement was made on Tuesday by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, via a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media and Communications Strategy, Alkasim Abdulkadir.

Tuggar charged the appointees to serve with integrity and professionalism, reminding them of their critical roles in executing President Tinubu’s global economic diplomacy agenda.

“As career diplomats, you must distance yourselves from political distractions and remain focused on your diplomatic duties for Nigeria’s collective development,” the minister said.

Speaking on behalf of the appointees, Ambassador Abubakar Jidda—recently named Consul General for New York—expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and the Ministry for the confidence reposed in them. He pledged, on behalf of his colleagues, to attract meaningful investments and uphold the highest standards of diplomatic service.
