Human Rights Activist and the Presidential Candidate of the African Action Congress Party (AAC) in 2023 Presidential Election, Omoyele Sowore, has been released by the Nigeria Police Force after two days detention in Abuja.

Speaking on Friday Night, August 8, 2025 via a live video posted on his social media handle, he thanked the lawyers and supporters who pressured the police for his release.

The activist extended his gratitude to Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Falana and others for speaking against his arrest and illegal detention.

In his words: “the Nigeria Police Force has capitulated to the demands of the revolutionary movement. I have been released from unjust, illegal, and unwarranted detention. However, it is nothing to celebrate, but thank you for not giving up! #RevolutionNow,” he stated.

It would be recalled that the activist reported himself on Wednesday at the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters Abuja after the IGP’s invitation.

While at the Force Headquarters, Sowore was arrested and secretly moved to an unknown detention facility from the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) where he was initially held.
