Ahead of the yuletide season, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has warned against the sale and use of firecrackers, vowing to deal decisively with violators.

A statement by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh,on Monday, November 24, 2025,it expressed concern about the increase in circulation of knockout explosives and other unauthorised pyrotechnics across the Territory.

It noted that firecrackers pose serious safety hazards, including injuries, fire outbreaks, and widespread panic.

”They also create opportunities for criminal elements to mask unlawful activities.

”Beyond these risks, their indiscriminate use disrupts public peace and endangers vulnerable members of the community, particularly children, the elderly, and persons with underlying health conditions.

”Residents are, therefore, strongly urged to comply with this advisory, “the command stated

It further said operatives of the command have been directed to enforce the directive and ensure that violators were arrested and prosecuted accordingly,

”The public is encouraged to remain vigilant and promptly report anyone involved in the sale or use of firecrackers.

“Residents are advised to report violators to the nearest police station or through the FCT Police Command emergency lines,” the command added.
